Blooming red rose

As I'm sitting here

With my life coming to an end

I would be thinking

Of the school I used to attend.

Being a child I would play

Rolling around in the hay.

My teenage years were so much fun

Life had only just begun

At twenty I married

Four children I had

Each so elegant and individually mad.

Middle age crept upon me, my husband and I

Were left alone to face the

Morning sun

Christmas time I used to love

Being on the wings of a dove

Now I am a solitary person

Not being able to do many deeds

And looking at my garden

With so many dark green weeds

My life is at a close

With thoughts of a

Blooming red rose

(1999)
